Shane Disotell, Board Member

Shane has been a police officer for nearly 24 years with the Phoenix Police Department. Prior to joining the department, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. Shane is currently the Commander of the Professional Standards Bureau. He oversees investigations into alleged officer misconduct, use of force situations and Officer Involved Shootings.Throughout his career, he has learned many valuable lessons from various situations, assignments, and the community he serves. He has a passion for training others, always striving to pass along the knowledge he has gained.

Shane has held various assignments throughout the department. He was a trainer within the Field Training Officer Program as an officer; as a sergeant, he also supervised training officers. Shane worked on the Neighborhood Enforcement Team; the focus of this team was to build a bond with the community, listen to concerns, and work with them to find solutions. He learned the value of listening while working with the community to bring about positive changes.

As a sergeant, Shane also held positions within patrol, the Canine Unit and the Professional Standards Bureau. He was involved in numerous use of force situations. As a lieutenant, Shane was assigned to patrol; he led others through critical incidents, which included numerous officer-involved shootings. Leading others through these difficult situations provided valuable insight when he became a lieutenant in the Violent Crimes Bureau, where Shane supervised the Night Detectives, the Robbery Unit, and then the Homicide Unit. While overseeing Homicide, his team investigated multiple complex shootings, some which involved other agencies; under his leadership, Homicide detectives focused on finding and reporting the facts to department leaders who shared them with the community.

Shane has joined an amazing group of professionals whose focus is on improving officers and communities across the country. They are dedicated to serving others while striving to improve bonds between the community and officers, who all strive for a better policing profession.
